Craziness!!!!

So first let me start with thanks to everyone for your prayers, phone calls, and support over the last few days. There were a few days there were I really didn't know if I had the strength to put one foot in front of the other much less be there for my grandmother. Let me start from the beginning in case you've not heard.

My grandmother fell Monday night when leaving work but she was able to get up, walk, and drive home so we (she) thought she had just pulled a muscle or had a pinched nerve. We did the epson salt soak and lots of tylenol/aleve. She got up Tuesday and sore but walking. By Tuesday night though we had progressed to the walker but yet still able to walk around with help. On Wednesday she went by the dreaded chiropractor and he put heat on it thinking it was a pinched nerve which now that we know the problem, it was probably the worst thing that could have happened. Through all of this though we were planning on a trip to Atlanta with my aunt to watch the Braves and do some shopping (ikea, I missed you). I tried my best to persuade her that we shouldn't but for those who might know my grandmother also know that she is very stubborn and is the head of our family so we do what she says. We got up Friday, I loaded the car as well as her, picked up my aunt and headed off.

The first bad omen was not that it only took about 4.5 hours to get there but my aunt didn't get good directions to our hotel after spending 2 hours driving around Atlanta to find it, we found it. Our hotel was overbooked. Luckily our room was guaranteed so they transferred us, for free, to another hotel about 15 minutes away. The only problem is with the exception of about 15 minutes my grandmother has now been in the car for close to 8 hours and is in quite a bit of pain. When we finally made it to the hotel she could not move much less walk. I was finally able to get her in a wheel chair and up to the room where when I tried to help her stand to go to the bathroom the ball in her hip broke completly. After 10 minutes of screaming and no movement we got her in the bed where she stayed until the next morning when I drove 90 miles an hour to get her back to St Thomas Hospital. We dropped my aunt off at home and got the ER at 2:00 where within 30 minutes we were told that we would be doing a hip replacment either that night or in the morning. Mind you the only times we had eaten were at 10:00 Friday Morning and 10:00 Saturday morning so we were both starving and thirsty but knowing surgery was in the forseeable future she couldn't eat/drink so neither did I until about 10:00 that night. After alot of pain and suffering for her as well as me emotionally we found out on Sunday am that she was going into surgery at Noon. The surgery lasted about 2.5 hours but everything went well and she seems to be doing okay. They were able to get her up and walking to the door in her room today but then had to sit her back down. The only problem now is that she had injured her kneed last summer and we think that she may have reinjured it in her fall but with everything going on with her hip it was overlooked!

We did decide yesterday that she will go to a rehab facility for 10-14 days to help her get on her feet quicker. She has a Vegas trip in 6 weeks and my cousin is expecting a baby in June so we have lots for her to do in the coming weeks. It was also be a little easier on me when she comes home having had 2 weeks of therapy under her belt. I really wasn't sure how I was going to be able to work, take care of the house, trying to jumpstart a business, camp, and take care of her.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers, as they say this soon will pass and I don't dare complain as I had to have the same care last year when I was confined to the bed for 6 weeks. If anyone has any quick and easy recipes that they would like to pass along though that would be great so that I can start making some things and freezing them for when she gets home!
