NO ANSWERS!

Posted 11 hours ago
Sorry for taking so long for the update but Jeff and I are just having a hard time right now dealing with NO ANSWERS! When they took Emerie down for the cat scan the doctors and nurses were upset that Emerie had not received morphine and valium all day to control her pain and to calm her and keep her neck still so it could heal properly. Especially considering she had nothing to eat or drink all day and it was 3:45. They would not even put her to sleep without calming her down with morhine first. She did real well when they put her to sleep. They even let me hold her until she was out all the way. They even let me lay her in the machine before they made me leave the room. They have never done that before. They usually take her from us kicking and screaming. I think they figured Emerie had been through enough in the past few days. They also worked with us in trying to prevent pressure soars. One of the nurses asked the doctor if she could take the collar off during the cat scan and line it with moleskin to help prevent friction, rubbing and pressure sores. The doctor actually was in there when they did the cat scan and that has never happened before either. It is bad when they open the doors to the recovery room in radiology and the anesthesiologist and nurses say Oh it's Emerie again and they know me and Jeff on a first name basis. There are some wonderful compassionate nurses in the recovery room in the radiology department. God knew we needed that just at the right time, because Jeff and I are exhausted. God is always right on time. She was so peaceful when they were done with the catscan. She was laying straight for one time in her life. The doctors came in and told us that they had looked at most of the scan and they could find nothing. They told us they know something is wrong with Emerie it is just not something obvious to them. They told us they basically can't figure this one out. They suggest that we now see a neurologist once again and there is a possibility there is something wrong in Emerie's brain. Possibly her brain is not relaying the message to her nerves and muscles in the neck how to work properly. If this is the case they don't know if this can ever be fixed. This has been mentioned to us before, but then the doctors changed their minds. They didn't see anything in her last MRI done at about 21/2 months old. They said this could be really hard to see in a MRI that young so possibly they need to repeat the MRI to see if anything has changed in the brain since she is older now. Which means putting her to sleep again. The doctors here are stumped and they are now admitting it. They decided against the halo because they said the way her head went right back to tilting over after surgery would mean she would twist her head in the halo and the screws would essentially rip the skin and strip the skull and cause major infections. They want us to wear the cervical collar for a few weeks and then we will reevaluate. We want to be sent somewhere that specializes in the skull base area and the vertebrae. We feel like we have to be persistent at this point and fight for Emerie because she needs for her skull to grow right. We are still waiting for the craniofacial doctor to come in. We have been waiting for two days now. They are now having to keep Emerie very medicated just to calm her down. Tommorrow is a new day and maybe GOd has something special in store for us, because we just take one day at a time now sometimes one hour at a time. Please pray that God helps us say the right thing to the doctors without being ugly. The doctor told us tonight that he understands that we are extremely frustrated because he is too. Maybe tonight while he is sleeping or relaxing something or someone will come to his mind that can help Emerie. Well while I was writing this update they gave Emerie some morphine and she is finally sleeping in her favorite place this week(on her daddy's chest)which is a answered prayer. Maybe it will be a peaceful night.
