Emerie began therapy yesterday and was only able to tolerate about 10 minutes worth. Cookies, suckers, toys, and everything they thought she might like was offered but she would have none of it. Note that Emerie sometimes loves her therapist Mrs. Nicole more than she does us so we don’t think it has anything to do with being scared of them. The therapist told Tina that she is measuring much worse and the curvature in her neck has worsened since surgery. Emerie has had the same therapist since February and she knows Emeries body as well as her tendencies so at this point you have more confidence in her than the doctors. Last night they gave her, her first bath without the collar and Tina said her head was hanging to the left so bad that Jeff wanted her to put the collar straight back on.
It’s amazing how well she’s not doing when the orthopedic surgeon was so optimistic and kept pointing out how she was moving her head, but like my uncle said if he wants to know how she’s moving he needed to hold her and feel her whole torso move whenever she turned her head. Mrs. Nicole also said that Emerie has conformed the inside of the collar to curve with her neck so that it is no longer holding it straight. A call has been placed to the doctor to stress the changes and we are still waiting to see what he says. Until then Emerie will try therapy again tomorrow and hope for the best.
Please continue to pray that with this development, the doctors at Vanderbilt will go ahead and release her to go to another hospital. Pray that though it seems its worsened, maybe Emerie will be able to develop more strength so that for the first half of the day she doesn’t just let her head rest to that side. That she will fight whatever is controlling her body as she has for the last 14 months. Even more so, please pray for my Aunt. She didn’t feel well on Monday but I think it’s a combination of the bugs going around as well stress. She is constantly up at night checking on her and repositioning her because not only our we dealing with the skeletal problem but she also developed Acid Reflex as a result of the curve so you have to be real careful if she spits up or gets congested that it doesn’t go into her lungs. She is also still on the Valium.
As we no more I will continue to update everyone!
